Press Release Fire
I usually shy away from reviewing press release books that aren't sold on Amazon or in the real-world bookstores because the quality of your average press release Ebook does not meet my standards. So when I was approached to write a review for this one, I almost said "No thanks."
What changed mind was a claim the author, Brad Callen, made about getting the #1 spot on Yahoo and Google for "the most searched term online in less than 24 hours," thanks to a Press Release he had submitted.
How can you say "No thanks" to a press release results claim like that?
I have to say that the book surprised me. I write press releases as part of the services I offer as a freelance writer, so I know what makes a Press Release successful. Brad does too. And while I have seen more polished writing styles, he explains the press release creation process clearly and his step-by-step instructions can easily be followed by anyone even if they have never written a Press Release before.
Of course, writing a Press Release is only part of the equation; getting the press release distributed and actually picked up by web sites, search engines and media outlets is the most important step. And the book reveals some pretty clever techniques for getting that done as well. I actually picked up two tricks I had never thought about and I've distributed thousands of press releases in my career.
The author understands that the role of a press release has changed. Their original purpose was solely to attract the attention of journalists and editors with the hope that a follow-up story would get printed in a newspaper or magazine. In the best case, a TV or radio station might pick it up as well.
Now, the goal of a press release is to generate as many backlinks to your web site as possible. The book take you through that process, and it does it well. That's probably because Brad is a noted Search Engine Optimization (SEO) consultant who understands how the whole link strategy thing works. But he still covers techniques for getting your press release picked up by CNN, MSNBC, and other networks, so he's really wrapped up all the loose ends.
Like most Ebooks sold on web sites, this one comes with a number of free bonuses. All of these bonuses are actually pretty good. I especially liked the example press release templates he provides. If you don' have a lot of PR writing experience, these templates can cut your effort by 3/4.
And then there's that #1 spot he got for the most searched term on Google and Yahoo...
but I'll let you find out what that was when you visit his site!
